It’s been a while since I’ve last written anything here 🙂 Hello! I hope all of you are having a wonderful day filled with joy and laughter.
Finals ended a few days ago and it has been great ride. It’s the first semester where I was able to maintain a cool head and not lose my sanity during finals week, haha! This year’s personal review and sketches inside 🙂
As we know, the other thing that’s about to end soon is this year! Yes, this year, which has been a hectic roller-coaster just like the years before, will soon come to a close. I’ve learned so many lessons, lost some friends and made new ones, each of them I’m forever grateful for. Thank you for the experiences; the good, the bad; and the worst.
Now, back to the main topic of this blog, art! In 2019, I didn’t draw as much as last year, but there were big improvements nonetheless 🙂 This year, I managed to draw 5 full-body character drawings, some with fully-rendered backgrounds, lighting, depth effects, did some experimentation with animation, and so on! Don’t really know what pushed me to do that, but it feels awesome! (now that I think about it haha)
Sadly, this year also marks the worst hiatus of this blog. The previous years, I still managed to upload about 5-6 posts in irregular periods, but even that is still awful. I cannot promise to update this blog regularly too, I mean, even now, because I must admit, trying to grow an audience on Instagram is not easy.
Ever since I started to dedicate more time on Instagram, I slowly abandoned the other platforms like this blog, deviantART, etc. Though, I have to be honest, it’s been difficult to find a stable audience there. Trends move quickly, artists are expected to upload regularly lest the algorithm ignores you, using the right hashtags, etc — It can get very exhausting at times.
However, dwelling in these things would not result in anything so; I’ve decided to revive my deviantART account too! (and make matters worse). Even though some say that the platform is not as “crowded” as it used to be, well, maybe it is, but with the wrong people. Regardless, I will still upload newer works on it as deviantART supports transparent backgrounds and hi-res images hahaha. As for traffic, I won’t mind that anymore so long as I can draw freely (for now) 🙂
As for this blog… Writing this post itself feels liberating and really takes me back to those wonderful times where I just wrote whatever crossed my mind back in junior high. Plus, my writing skills have declined ever since I stopped updating so… Let’s see if I can write more next year! Tutorials? More ‘positive’ rants? Who knows 🙂
Pictured below is my most recent sketch, a fanart of my all-time favorite 2D man, Kaname Kuran. This was supposed to be my new OC Kikyou, but– let’s just say something happened along the way, haha.
Cheers to a better 2020!
